The 2026 Asia Dance Tour—Taipei Open concluded successfully on February 28 at Taipei Arena, marking a spectacular finale to one of the world’s four major open ballroom dance championships. Now in its 15th edition, the event welcomed more than 1,000 competitors from 33 countries and territories, competing for a total prize purse of NT$3.3 million. Over two days, thousands of spectators filled the arena, underscoring Taipei’s growing international profile as a dynamic sports and events capital—and adding another impressive chapter to Taiwan’s achievements on the global dance ranking circuit.
Co-presented by the Department of Sports, Taipei City Government and the Taiwan Dance Organization, the championship was hailed as a major platform for international exchange and elite competition. Yu Chu-Ping, Commissioner of the Department of Sports, expressed appreciation for the organizers’ professionalism and passion in staging an event of world-class caliber. Under the leadership of Chairman Liu Shun-Yi and Secretary-General Chen Wei-Juan, the federation has not only nurtured a new generation of outstanding local talents but also elevated the Taipei stop into a key destination on the international DanceSport calendar. Commissioner Yu added that Taipei will continue to host high-standard international events, providing Taiwanese athletes with more opportunities to compete globally, earn ranking points, and gain invaluable match experience—while further building a welcoming and diverse city for ballroom dancing.
The first day of competition featured mainly solo events across adult, youth, and children’s categories, with dancers from Russia, New Zealand, Malaysia, South Korea, and Indonesia joining Taiwanese athletes on the floor—highlighting the cultural depth and cross-border exchange embodied in DanceSport. On the second day, pair events brought the atmosphere to a thrilling crescendo. The evening program culminated in a special honorary showcase, featuring 10 world-class star couples delivering a dazzling thank-you performance—an unforgettable blend of athletic excellence and artistic expression that brought the two-day championship to a stirring close.
In the final results, Massimo Arcolin & Laura Arcolinova of Italy captured the title in the World Professional Open Latin, while Stanislav Zelianin & Irina Cherepanova of Singapore claimed the championship in the World Professional Standard. The titles in the World Amateur Standard and World Amateur Latin were won by Marco Sirocchi & Dora Kilin of Italy and Joel Lopez & Kristina Bespechnova of Spain, respectively, delivering standout performances.
Taiwanese dancers also turned in an impressive showing on the international stage. In the Asian Professional Open Standard, three local pairs advanced to the final, with Tu Hao-Ying & Mariia placing fifth, Shih Yu-Jun & Ku Tung-Yu taking third, and Lin Chang-Hung & Li Wen-Hsuan finishing second, narrowly missing the title by a single point. Meanwhile, Chen Yang-Yi & Kao Sheng-Wen likewise fought through a highly competitive field to reach the final of the Asian Professional Open Latin, ultimately placing sixth. The results highlight Taiwan’s steadily rising DanceSport strength and its growing readiness to compete with the world’s elite.
The Department of Sports noted that this year’s event fully embraced ESG sustainability principles. Photo backdrops, directional signage, and entrance installations were all produced using corrugated cardboard, demonstrating a concrete commitment to resource reuse and the spirit of a greener, more sustainable sporting event.
With the Taipei leg successfully concluded on February 28, participating dancers depart with memorable experiences and best wishes as they head to the next stop on the tour—Shanghai, before March 2—continuing the remarkable journey of the 2026 Asia Dance Tour.
